Let’s start with the first question.
How to create social media templates?
Every design starts with the concept and then with the help of elements, photos, and various other elements, you convert your concept into an original shape.
There are two important things before you start creating templates.
1- Where can you get the concept from?
What are the bestselling templates online? This can also be said as what people are looking for in terms of social media designs online?
As far as the design concept is concerned, I have mentioned one website above in this article (Freepik.com). I also use pinterest.com to see what many designers are creating around the world?
Designs on these websites help you to analyze the latest design trends as well as the theme/concepts/occasions for which designers are showing creativity in recent days.

If you need to check the general templates then simply write the specific keywords in the search bar. For example, you write “Social media template for fitness brand”, See the below screenshot with the results on freepik and Pinterest. You have surely got the idea now.
2- What are the bestselling templates online? This can also be said as what people are looking for in terms of social media designs online?
Well answer to this question can be attained through the websites where you need to sell these templates. Though there are many websites but below are the two websites which Canva designers use mainly to sell their templates online.
- Etsy
- Creative market
I will discuss how to sell templates on these sites later in this article.
Step 1 –
Once you prepare your mind with the concept and gather ideas to create templates then select a suitable template size in canva. I use the Instagram template for my template design business.
Step 2-
Now you need to select the suitable elements for your design. Remember, don’t play around with many elements, just select a few and use the same in all your slides.
Step 3-
Let’s start creating it practically. Assume that we select the Fitness brand for our template designs.
Our first slide should have a brand name /logo along with a slogan and a little about fitness or health. See the below image for your reference.
The color scheme is very important for your design template, make sure it must reflect the brand theme but as you are creating templates for your selected niche in general so still keep it relevant.
Important Point – Remember, you are creating templates for non-Canva designers so make sure these must be very easy to edit. This is a very important factor to keep in mind while adding any element.
Step – 4
- Update the second slide with almost the same elements but change the position slightly. Also, add “About us” on this slide. Use Lorem Ipsum text for this purpose. See the below image for your reference.
- For the third slide, use the same method as mentioned above but mention the facilities, your brand is offering. This slide is important in which your clients have to attract their clients with the best-offered services along with the packages. So make sure to provide them sufficient space for this purpose but keep the important services with the bold text or highlight them with the easy editable method.
- On the fourth slide, Design with some discounts offered or Giveaways, etc.
- For the fifth slide, you can share the testimony or customers’ feedback regarding that business.
- For the last slide, add contact us or let us serve you like statements, etc.
- Once you will be finished with all these slides, save them in Jpg/png format. Upload them again in Canva. Use slightly a big Canvas in width. I will recommend using dimensions (1500*1080).
- If you need to promote your templates on Pinterest then use the Pinterest template size.
- Place all your slides on the canvas in row three up and three down.
- Go to effect – Apply shadow “Glow” under each image.

Your templates are your digital products so to sell them online, You need to follow the below steps.
Step 1 – Create a below note in “US document” format in Canva.
Step 2- Press on the button “Template Link” from Canva through SHARE button. You will get the “Template Link sharing“. See the below screenshots for your easy reference. Know more about adding Links in Canva Here.
Step 3- Apply this link in your note on the product description.
Step 4- Save this document in PDF format. This is the file which you will upload as your digital products on various website while selling your templates online.
What are the best online platforms to sell Canva templates?
As mentioned above, there are two best websites to sell your canva templates.
Step – 1
Create your account.
Step 2-
Open your shop, add shop logo, cover page, etc. Add a description or of your digital brand/company.
Step 3- Upload your products one by one, Use the picture with all your templates as your cover picture for each of your product listing. Add the rest of the images in your listing so that your clients can have maximum information about your product.
Step 4- Add description and prices etc for your product. All these steps are well guided by these websites so you won’t be facing any issue to list your product.
Step 5- Upload your PDF file which has been created for your product template with the above-shared method.
Step 6- Publish your listing to sell your templates online.
For the creative market, you first need to apply for the shop, their process of accepting shop owners is very strict. They do not approve easily so I would suggest you first go with etsy.com and then use the same shop link after few months to apply for creative mark shop. You can use your Etsy shop link as your portfolio while applying for a shop at the creative market.
How much can we earn selling Canva templates?
Well, this is a very tricky question but it depends on your design, marketing methods, reach of your social media channels, etc. But you can see below shops on the creative market for an idea of how much canva designers are charging for these templates? You can promote your templates on Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest, etc to reach more buyers. By the time your shops will start generating passive income for you, more clients will start contacting you directly for their customized needs. This will open another source of income generation for you.
